Description

“Heavenly Couple” shows the sun and the moon with human faces locked into one circle. The design is decorative, built on curls and waves.

What the picture shows

On the left and slightly higher is the golden sun: a face with closed eyes, tongues of flame radiating around it in several shades of yellow and ochre. On the right a deep blue crescent moon cuts into it, wearing the same calm profile. The background is blue, covered with spirals, waves and small stars stitched in a lighter thread — it is stitched too, so the blue fabric barely shows through. The 23 thread colours work in pairs: a warm golden range against a cool blue one, with no intermediate shades. The tongues of flame around the sun differ in length and curve, and none repeats its neighbour. A thin star shows on the moon’s forehead and its lashes are lowered, while the waves in the background run in two layers — darker below and lighter above.
