Description

“Harvest Day” shows a bunny in a waistcoat wheeling a barrow of cabbages, tulips and chrysanthemums. The piece is light and almost childlike.

What the picture shows

The figure stands on the left, turned towards the barrow: white fur, round glasses, grey-blue trousers, a yellow waistcoat and a cap. The barrow is grey with a large dark wheel; inside lie cabbages with broad pale green leaves, two yellow pompoms of chrysanthemum, pink tulips and dry spikelets. A few carrots have fallen onto the ground under the wheel. The drawing is light, with small shadows and no superfluous detail. The background is not stitched — the white fabric serves both as background and as the floor under the figure. There are 32 thread colours. The cabbage leaves are worked from a light centre to darker edges, and veins show in every head. The tulips stand at different angles, the chrysanthemums are made of small petals, and spokes and a shadow show on the barrow wheel.
