Description

“Goldfish” shows two fish woven into a scrolling ornament with a chain of bubbles. Worked on dark blue cloth.

What the picture shows

The design is built as a large spiral: gold scrolls with leaves and drops radiate from the centre, and two fish with full tails and rounded fins hide between them. The tails are worked in turquoise and emerald, the bodies in gold and ochre. Small round bubbles rise in an arc. The dark blue canvas is left unstitched and reads as water, so the ornament looks lit from within. Metallic thread adds a cool sheen to some of the lines. The scrolls of the ornament and the bodies of the fish flow into one another, so the boundary is not obvious at once. The bubbles vary in size and rise in an arc towards the upper right corner.
