Description

“Golden Beetle” is a large beetle in a symmetrical ornament, stitched in metallic thread on black. A companion to the golden bee.

What the picture shows

The beetle is shown from above: heavy elytra with lengthwise lines, six legs, side wings spread like fans. A pointed crown with rays rises above it and a narrow pendant of drops hangs below. The ornament around is built of mirrored scrolls, small leaves and net. The palette is gold, ochre and dark bronze with a few brighter highlights. The black cloth is deliberately left unstitched and works as the ground, so the silhouette reads like metal chasing. The elytra are filled with parallel lines, with gaps of black cloth deliberately left between them. The crown above the beetle repeats the shape of its elytra in miniature.
