Description

“Glorious Ukraine” — a heart made of flowers: blue above, yellow below, with no colour in between.

What the picture shows

The heart shape is held by the blooms themselves; there is no outline. The upper half is built from cornflowers, hydrangeas, forget-me-nots and small blue stars, from pale sky to deep ultramarine; the lower half is yellow — sunflowers with dark centres, marigolds, small orange flowers and green leaves between them. The border between the halves is uneven, the colours overlap, and most of the thirty-four thread shades work exactly there. Butterflies sit along the edges, blue above and yellow below. The fabric around is left plain, so the shape reads at once, even from a distance. The butterflies are deliberately small: they do not compete with the flowers, only break the outline of the heart at its edges.
