Description

“Gentle light” is a metal lantern with glass sides and a pink rose standing inside. Worked on coffee-coloured cloth.

What the picture shows

The lantern is rectangular, with a hipped roof, a hanging ring and a shaped base; the frame is worked in dark grey and bluish stitches, the glass in pale, almost transparent ones. Inside, against the panes, stands a large pink rose with several layers of petals, with small white flowers beside it. Glaucous green branches escape from the bottom of the lantern, and a pink ribbon tied in a loop lies in the foreground. The coffee tone of the cloth softens the light colours, and the canvas is still fully covered. The ribbon in the foreground reaches beyond the lantern and ties the composition to the lower edge of the piece. The lantern roof is the darkest part of the piece and clearly separates it from the light ground.
