Description

“Forest collection” shows mushrooms, berries and leaves laid out as if on a herbarium page. There is no scene here: it is a collection.

What the picture shows

Eight mushrooms of different kinds are scattered freely across the field: two fly agarics with red caps and white spots, boletes with brown caps, small honey fungi on thin stems. Between them are acorns, a cone, bilberry sprigs with dark blue berries and ochre oak leaves. Feathers and green twigs with small leaves stand to the right and left. Each object is stitched separately, with its own shadow; the background is not stitched, so the white fabric holds the space between them. There are 27 thread colours. The mushroom caps differ in texture: the fly agarics are smooth with white spots, the boletes have uneven edges, the honey fungi are small and clustered. The bilberries carry a grey bloom, and the acorn cups show crosswise hatching.
