Description

“Flower wind-1” is a feather sprouting flowers: a burgundy tulip, cream daisies and gold leaves on black cloth.

What the picture shows

The composition rests on a large feather turned to the left: its barbs are worked in light olive and gold stitches that part in places to show the black cloth through. A deep burgundy flower with pointed petals grows from the top of the feather, with two cream daisies and russet centres beside it. Lower down the shaft breaks into thin filaments, and small buds hang at the sides. The palette is warm — burgundy, olive, gold, cream. The ground is left unstitched, and the black is what deepens the colours. The flower at the top is nearly as wide as the feather itself, giving the composition a clear upper accent.
