Description

“Fan” is an open fan with three red discs and a sakura branch shedding its petals. Worked on black cloth.

What the picture shows

The fan is open through almost a half circle, its ribs worked in fine gold thread radiating from the lower point, where a tassel hangs on a cord. Three large red circles of different sizes lie across the leaf of the fan — at once like suns and like paper lanterns. A branch with dense pink sakura blossom runs over them, and single petals fall from it. The black canvas stays as the ground and is not filled in. Eleven colours; beads pick out the flower centres, and metallic thread the ribs and the outline. The falling petals are scattered unevenly and carry the design beyond the fan itself.
