What the picture shows

The figure sits slightly left of centre: a long yellow dress with soft folds, a white collar, a string of beads, a round rosy face and tall cream-pink ears. To her right stands a small white rotunda with columns, and large poppies and peonies in coral, raspberry and powder pink open below and beside her among green leaves. The background stays light and almost free of colour, so the eye goes to the figure and the flowers. The whole piece is counted cross stitch and the canvas is covered. The flowers are worked as large blocks of colour without fine shading, which makes them easy to stitch.
