Description

“Colorful autumn” — an autumn composition with a cup of coffee, leaves and berries on warm burgundy canvas.

What the picture shows

A large orange cup with the word latte and a swirl of cream stands in the centre, steam rising from it. Above, leaves, an acorn and twigs spell out LOVE, with a red heart-shaped leaf standing in for the letter O. Viburnum berries, small hearts, outlined leaves and curls are scattered around, stitched in light threads straight onto the burgundy. The palette is autumnal: mustard, terracotta, olive, deep wine, with a few patches of turquoise for contrast. Thirty-seven thread colours carry the transitions, beads pick out berries and drops, and metallic thread adds a light shine. The burgundy canvas between the motifs is left open: it serves as the background and reinforces the autumn palette instead of fighting it. Small outlined twigs, hearts and stars are scattered across the field, filling the pauses between the larger shapes. The composition reads like a postcard, centred on the cup with the lettering above.
