Cross Stitch Kit "Colored town-1"
Description
“Colored town-1” — a row of old gabled houses drawn in line and filled with colour only here and there.
What the picture shows
The whole street is given as a quick sketch: a thin dark contour for houses, windows, chimneys and weather vanes, worked in a single dark shade. Only a few façades are stitched in colour — blue, ochre yellow, terracotta and grey — while the rest stays graphic. A band of water runs below the houses with their reflection in it, the same lines but broken and shaken. Twenty-three thread colours go mostly into roofs and façades. The canvas is not covered solidly: its warm shade stays as the ground and makes the drawing look like a page from an old album. The reflection in the water takes up almost a third of the design and gives the line work its depth. The colour patches are placed asymmetrically, so the eye finds its own way through them.
