Description

“Coffee beans” is an old hand-cranked coffee mill with beans spilling out of it. Warm browns and a touch of machinery: screws, cogs and a copper handle.

What the picture shows

At the centre stands a wooden mill with a copper crank and a coffee mill plate on top. The body is built of planks with cogs and screws showing between them, and a small drawer at the bottom. Roasted beans scatter around it, and an unrolled scroll with a wavy edge lies below. The palette rests on walnut, ochre, copper and dark brown against a soft pinkish-beige ground. Cross stitch covers the canvas completely; the beads add small glinting accents. Small clouds of steam drift above the mill, and single beans lie as dark spots along the bottom.
