Description

“Christmas tree” is a cone built not from branches but from lacy leaves, berries and baubles. Worked on dark blue cloth.

What the picture shows

The shape of the tree is set by a dense heap of decorative elements: elongated veined leaves, patterned round balls, cones, buds, small flowers and spiral scrolls. The colours are cool and deep — emerald, turquoise, violet — with only the gold staying warm. A star with radiating beams shines at the top, and a bow with ribbon closes the composition below. The dark blue canvas between the elements is left unstitched and works as a night ground, so the lacy outlines read clearly. Metallic thread adds a cool sheen to the star and a few of the baubles. No element repeats: every leaf and every ball carries its own pattern and its own set of shades.
