Description

“Christmas dream” — a red mug of cocoa with marshmallows, a gingerbread house and a striped straw.

What the picture shows

The mug stands in the centre: deep red with white highlights, filled with a heap of toasted marshmallows and a red-and-white straw. A tiny iced gingerbread house is perched on the rim, and at the lower left sits a cupcake with snowy cream, a cherry on top and a heart-printed paper case. The background is pale blue, sown with blue snowflakes of different sizes. Twenty-six thread colours give the baked, rosy tones and the warm shadows in the cream, while PRECIOSA #10 beads set glossy points on the snow and the icing. The pale blue ground is stitched along with the snowflakes, so the piece comes out dense across its whole area. The proportions are deliberately exaggerated: the mug is larger than the house, and that makes the scene look like a fairy tale.
