Cross Stitch Kit "Chittering about winter"
Description
“Chittering about winter” shows two birds on a branch with red berries, seemingly talking to each other. The piece is wintry but without snowdrifts or holidays.
What the picture shows
The birds face one another: grey backs, pale breasts, bright red wings and tails; the one on the left has a red cap on its head. The branch runs diagonally from the bottom right, carrying clusters of red berries and dry stalks. Behind the birds are greenish spruce boughs and pale trunks, and further off a pink-grey mist. The colours are warm and muted, with red as the only clear accent. The background is stitched in soft gradations, so it looks like a blurred distance rather than empty fabric. The berries are gathered into several clusters, and each berry carries a small light highlight. Cracks in the bark show on the branch, and the spruce needles behind are worked in short stitches pointing in different directions, so they do not look like a flat patch.
