Description

“Bulk apples” shows a wicker basket full of red apples with a few more fruits beside it on the table. A simple scene without extra props.

What the picture shows

The basket stands in the centre: the wicker is stitched in rows of ochre and brown, so the weave and the curved handle read clearly. Apples are packed tightly inside — from yellow-red to almost cherry — each with a light highlight and a dark shadow below. Three more fruits lie in front of the basket and to the right, one turned stalk-first towards the viewer. Green leaves with yellow veins come out from behind the handle and stretch to the right. The background is not stitched: the ecru fabric is left as warm light around the still life. Every apple is stitched differently: one still has a greenish side, another shows a speck, a third a curved dry stalk. The weave of the basket runs at an angle and changes direction near the handle, so it really looks three-dimensional.
