Cross Stitch Kit "Big city life"
Description
“Big city life” looks up along a street squeezed between skyscrapers. The design is watercolour-like: the further away the buildings are, the lighter and more transparent they become.
What the picture shows
The street runs as a wedge from the bottom edge into the distance, the cars on it small, almost like marks. Brick facades in warm red and ochre tones stand on the left and right, while a dark blue skyscraper with two antennas rises in the centre, with several more towers behind it. The sky above is pale, with coloured streaks of smoke. The colour scheme rests on the contrast between the cool blue vertical and the warm brick at the sides. The upper edge is deliberately left light, so the picture seems to dissolve into the air. Most of the colours go into the facades: every building has its own brick, its own windows and fire escapes, and it is this small variation that keeps the street from looking stencilled. The smoke above the roofs is taken in pink and turquoise — the brightest patch in the piece.
