Description

“Bee paradise” — a bumblebee on golden honeycomb: warm ochre, black stripes and translucent blue wings.

What the picture shows

A large bumblebee sits in the centre, its striped body furry and dense; the wings are stitched in pale blue and turquoise with thin veins, so they look translucent. Around it are honeycomb hexagons, some filled with orange and ochre, others merely outlined in metallic thread. Round ornamental rosettes with fine patterning sit in the corners like cross-sections of a comb. PRECIOSA #10 beads are placed where drops of honey would catch the light. The ground stays open black canvas, and against it the yellow looks almost lit. At the edges the honeycomb breaks off as if it continued past the fabric, which makes the composition feel larger than its size. Twelve thread colours are divided between the warm ochre of the body and the cool turquoise of the wings.
