Cross Stitch Kit "Bay of hope"
Description
“Bay of hope” — a red-and-white lighthouse above a bay, with a cottage, a stone path and a flowering slope.
What the picture shows
The lighthouse stands on the right, its striped tower with a lantern and dark cap rising higher than anything else in the picture. A cottage with a tiled roof and climbing roses leans against it, and a stone-laid path leads down to the door. On the left lie the calm water of the bay, low shores and misty hills under a high sky with small clouds. The slope in front of the lighthouse is strewn with pink, white and lilac flowers, and most of the forty-nine thread colours go into that mixture. The small stitch of count 18 canvas holds the detail. The sky and the water are stitched right through, so the piece is dense across its whole area. The tower is deliberately off centre, and the composition reads as a frame from life rather than a postcard.
