Description

“Autumn moment” — an autumn bouquet of maple and oak leaves, berries and acorns, tied with a ribbon.

What the picture shows

The leaves are gathered in a fan: large maple leaves in crimson, copper and mustard, oak leaves in greenish ochre, with small elongated leaves and a twig of acorns between them. Heavy clusters of red viburnum and hawthorn berries hang on the right, lit with white highlights. The bouquet is tied with a narrow ribbon whose ends fall free. Behind the subject runs a light outline drawing of leaves, stitched close to the canvas tone so that it reads as a shadow. Forty-three thread colours across 120 m, and beads in two colours set the shine on the berries. The coffee-toned canvas stays open and gives the whole piece a warm undertone. The leaves are laid in layers: the lower ones darker and muted, the upper ones light and saturated. The ends of the ribbon hang below the bouquet and close the composition at the bottom.
