Description

“Autumn colors” shows a round pumpkin surrounded by autumn flowers on navy fabric. The composition is compact and almost symmetrical.

What the picture shows

The pumpkin sits in the centre: yellow-orange, with clear segments and a curled blue stalk — the only cool spot inside the warm mass. Asters, marigolds and small blooms in orange, lilac and pink lie around it, with turquoise and green leaves between them. Thin tendrils reach out to the sides and add lightness. The navy fabric is not stitched: it works as a background on which the warm colours sound louder. There are 19 thread colours, which is not many, and the design is rated simple. Light highlights run along the pumpkin’s segments and a darker shadow sits below — together they create the roundness. The flowers around are not identical: the asters have narrow petals, the marigolds dense, almost spherical heads, and the small buds are worked in two or three stitches.
