Description

“Apple pie” is a sampler that gathers everything needed for baking into small panels. In the centre is the pie itself with a lattice crust.

What the picture shows

The design is divided by a thin red grid into rectangles of different sizes. At the top is the lettering APPLE PIE in red with a row of small apples. The central panel holds the pie: a golden crust, strips of pastry laid crosswise and a darker filling between them. Separate objects sit on either side: a red oven mitt, a jug, a jar labelled FLOUR, a rolling pin and a whisk, a cracked egg, two apple halves. The coffee fabric is left as background inside the panels, so the images look as if drawn on an old kitchen board. The lattice on the pie is built from even strips that must be counted precisely, or the pattern will slip. The small objects in the panels are worked as simple silhouettes in two or three shades, and the red grid between them runs as an even line across the whole field.
