Description

“An exquisite holiday” — a wreath of oranges, white blossom and greenery on a warm grey ground.

What the picture shows

The ring is made of several groups: orange fruit with matt skin and dark stalks, white apple blossom with yellow centres, small blue blooms, dark green and glaucous leaves. Between them are twigs with berries and thin stems that reach beyond the circle. The oranges differ in size and are turned in different ways, so the wreath never looks drafted. Thirty-nine thread colours across 108 m give the peel its volume and the petals their half-tones. Inside the ring the grey canvas stays open and holds the whole palette together. The oranges are spaced unevenly around the ring, with pauses, so the wreath breathes.
