Description

“Adventures of Provence” shows a yellow Beetle with a basket of flowers on its roof driving out of a lavender field. The car is seen head on, almost close up.

What the picture shows

The body fills the lower two thirds of the design: a rounded bonnet, two round headlights, a chrome bumper and grille, a windscreen reflecting the sky. The yellow is laid in several shades, from an almost white highlight to ochre in the shadows. A wicker basket stands on the roof, with pink, lilac and white flowers and long lavender stems sticking out of it. A lilac-green meadow, worked in loose strokes, spreads on both sides and behind. The ecru fabric is left as background at the edges, so the composition looks like a watercolour study. A band of glare and the shadow of the basket show on the windscreen, and small dents and scuffs on the bumper. The flowers in the basket stick out in different directions, while the lavender behind is worked in short vertical strokes that lighten towards the horizon.
