Description

“Above the clouds” shows a red biplane flying over the clouds under a night sky with a young moon.

What the picture shows

The aeroplane occupies the lower half and flies to the left: two wings one above the other with bracing struts between them, a dark red fuselage with orange stripes, a round engine with a propeller and an open cockpit. A dense white and blue bank of cloud lies beneath. Above stretches a deep blue sky scattered with small white stars, a grey crescent moon on the left and a single red star on the right. The blue cloth carries the nocturnal range well, though the cross stitch is solid and the canvas is fully covered. The clouds are worked in three or four shades of white and blue, so they look dense, almost like snow at the bottom of the frame.
