Description

A single hydrangea head in pale pink: “A Fragile Bloom” rests on light and half-tones.

What the picture shows

The large round head is built from dozens of small four-petalled florets, from almost white to deep pink and lilac, each with fine veining. Broad green leaves with clear ribs spread below, while the stem and the smaller leaves at the bottom are worked in outline only, so the drawing seems to melt into the white canvas. The background is left unstitched — the bare canvas is what gives the flower its air. The head is assembled from small florets, each only a few squares across, so the work goes slowly but evenly. The kit holds 69 m of thread.
