“Sunny guest” shows a yellow goldfinch on a branch covered in spring blossom.
What the picture shows
The bird sits in profile on a thin branch: a bright yellow breast and back, a black cap and wings with white bars, and a sharp pale beak. The branch is covered with large pale yellow five-petalled flowers and small green leaves. The blue canvas is left unstitched and works as a cool sky against which the yellow glows most strongly. Twenty floss colours, 34 m, with many close yellows and greens. The white bars on the wings are stitched in a single thread over black — the most exacting area of the piece.
