What it is

It is a pair of light wooden rings: the inner one solid, the outer one split and closed by a metal screw at the top. The fabric goes over the smaller ring, the larger one drops over it and the screw pulls it tight — the tension adjusts to any weight of Aida or canvas. The round shape gives an even working field with no corners, where fabric usually sags. The wood is smooth, so the thread does not catch on the edge.
