“Prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker” centres on the saint in a blue-and-gold mitre.

What the picture shows

The bishop is shown half-length: a tall mitre with blue enamel and stones, a white omophorion with gold crosses over orange-red vestments, and a panagia on a chain. His right hand blesses, his left holds a Gospel in a decorated cover. The ground is yellow with painted scrollwork and stays as printing on the canvas. The beading covers the border: red beads fill the field, with white and pink oval beads and gold bugles scattered through the top and bottom, and a gold line along the edge. The prayer on the back of the banner is printed in Russian. The oval beads are larger than the rest, so the top and bottom bands have a slight relief.
