What the picture shows

At the centre of the printed image the Mother of God and the Child share one red-and-gold robe that falls like a bell, both crowned; angels with candles stand on clouds around them, seraphim and lamps appear above, city towers below, and the deep blue ground is scattered with gold stars. The drawing is rich and needs no stitching. The work goes into the bands at the top and bottom: blue beads laid as a dense field, white and gold worked into large diamonds, and a gold line along the edge. The border stays calmer than the image and does not compete with it. The gold stars on the printed blue ground echo the gold beads in the border.
