The prayer on the back of this Mother-and-Child banner is printed in Ukrainian.

What the picture shows

The printed image fills the middle of the canvas: the Mother of God in a crimson veil and green dress, the Child in white and gold on her left arm, a blue-grey ground and gold haloes rimmed with red. The beading forms the wide border — red beads packed into a solid field and threaded through with rows of gold, with two rectangles of white and gold beads at the top and two at the bottom. A narrow gold line runs around the edges. Since the icon stays printed, the work is only on the border and needs no magnifier and no experience. The white beads are noticeably lighter than the printed ground, so the blocks read even from a distance.
