The text of the Lord’s Prayer on the back of this banner is printed in Ukrainian.

What the picture shows

The printed image is Christ Pantocrator: a crimson tunic, a blue himation, the right hand blessing and a Gospel with a stone-set cover in the left. The ground is solid gold, the halo cruciform, with letters beside his head and an inscription below. Only the border around the icon is beaded: red beads fill the wide field, white and yellow form diamonds at the top and bottom, and a thin gold line outlines the piece. Five bead colours in a border this size give a visible play of shades rather than a flat field. The white beads are only half a tone lighter than the yellow, so the diamonds read softly, without hard contrast.
