What the picture shows

The image is printed on the canvas: the saint in green with a white kerchief, eyes closed, her right hand raised in blessing and a prayer rope in her left; the ground is warm ochre with painted scrollwork and an inscription beside her head. The embroidery covers only the border, and it is the border that sets the mood: white, green, gold and dark beads form large diamonds at the top and bottom, with gold along the sides. The palette is cooler than in the rest of the series, and green is the leading colour here. Dark and gold beads among the white give depth, so the border does not look flat.
