Description

“Sweet Morning” is a bead embroidery pattern: a still life with white lilies in a tall vase, china and a lemon against a blue drape.

What the picture shows

The bouquet fills the upper two thirds of the sheet: open white lilies with yellow stamens, several closed buds and long narrow leaves spreading in every direction. The vase is tall, with a narrow neck and a rounded body, worked in a pale lilac-white. To its left stands a low footed compote dish holding blue-and-white flowers, to the right a cup on a saucer, and a yellow lemon lies in the lower left corner. The background is made of a dark curtain on the left and a grey-blue folded cloth on which the whole still life is arranged. Every bead on the canvas is marked by a circle in its own colour, so it is clear at once where the beading goes: the flowers, the vase, the china and the fruit are covered, while the drape and the shadow behind stay as printing on the canvas.
