“Snowflake” is a large white snowflake filling a dark board, with lights.

What the picture shows

The snowflake takes up almost the whole field of the board. It has six rays, each with a double branch and small teeth closer to the tips — these are what make the pattern look like a real crystal. The whole figure is wound in a single white thread: where the rays cross there are more strands, so the centre comes out denser and brighter than the edges. An LED garland is threaded between the rays, so in the evening the snowflake glows, while by day it simply reads as a white graphic drawing on dark wood. The kit holds 30 m of thread.

The board is 190×290 mm. This is the simplest way into string art: one thread colour and a symmetrical drawing in which mistakes are easy to spot. The tree and baubles in the photograph are styling props. The threads are wound one colour after another, exactly as the chart shows. The image comes out of the crossings of the thread, so how dense the lines look depends on how many times you pass between the nails.
