Description

“Multicoloured feather” is a large stylised feather built from segments of different colours.

What the picture shows

The feather lies diagonally across the dark base and narrows towards the bottom. It is split into separate barbs, each worked in its own colour: pale blue and blue at the top, then yellow and green, and black, pink and crimson closer to the foot. The shaft is marked by a row of nails, from which the barbs fan out at an angle. Four small feathers drift away below — pink, pale blue, blue and black — as if blown off by the wind. Single nails with dark heads are scattered around and pick up the rhythm of the drawing. Seven colours give a busy, almost ethnic range; the dark wood shows between the threads and holds the composition together. The barbs vary in length and angle, so the feather looks slightly ruffled rather than even — and that is what keeps the drawing alive.
