Description

“Lavender” is a restrained string art piece with a bunch of lavender on dark wood.

What the picture shows

The bunch stands upright in the centre of the base. Stems and narrow leaves are worked in green thread from the bottom up, and the flower spikes in lilac: each spike is built from small separate patches, so the blooms look downy rather than solid. The tips lean slightly in different directions, which keeps the bunch from looking symmetrical. A third colour, a darker violet, works the densest parts of the spikes. Small nails mark the outline of every stem. Only three colours are used; the dark brown base stays as the background and shows through the threads across the whole surface. The spikes differ in length: one rises almost to the top edge while the other two stay lower, so the bunch looks gathered in a field rather than measured out.
