Description

“French Bulldog” is a graphic portrait of a dog put together from just two thread colours.

What the picture shows

The dog's face fills the whole base and is cropped at the edges like a close-up shot. The large upright ears are worked in white and outlined with a dotted line of nails; the face itself is black, so the pale details glow against it. White picks out the brows above the eyes, the broad nose with two nostrils, the two rounded cheeks and the fold between them. The rings of the eyes are left almost empty, with thread laid thinly, which gives the gaze a calm look. Only two colours are used, black and white, and the whole drawing rests on their contrast. The dark wood shows between the threads and adds depth to the shape. The folds above the nose are marked with a few short white lines, and it is these that give the muzzle the expression typical of the breed.
