Description

“Easter egg” is a large decorated egg in horizontal bands on a light wooden base.

What the picture shows

The egg fills almost the whole surface. It is divided into alternating bands: lilac with a violet cast, and green, separated by thin white lines of thread. Near the top the threads converge towards the tip of the egg in a fan, so the pattern is denser there, while lower down the bands lie in even horizontal layers. A continuous row of nails outlines the shape and holds it. Five colours are used: two lilacs, two greens and white. The base here is light and warm honey in tone, and it shows through the threads — which is why the bands look transparent rather than flooded with colour. The bands differ in width: wider towards the middle of the egg and narrower at the ends, so the shape never looks flat.
