Description

“Boo! Just me” is a skull laid out in black thread on a light wooden base.

What the picture shows

The shape takes up almost the whole board. The dome of the skull is outlined with a row of nails, with threads stretched between them in long crossings, so the top looks transparent, like a net. The eye sockets and the nasal opening, by contrast, are filled densely and are the darkest patches of the piece. A row of teeth runs below, marked by short vertical threads between nails, while the cheekbones and the jaw are drawn with a thin line. Only two colours are used, black and dark grey, and the whole drawing rests on the play between dense and sparse filling. The pale wood shows through the entire skull and works as the background. The proportions are decorative rather than anatomical: the skull is rounded, with soft lines, so the piece comes out playful rather than frightening.
