Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Antonina"
Description
“St. Antonina” — a waist-length image of the martyr holding a cross, in green robes and a pale veil.
What the picture shows
The saint stands frontally, her head slightly inclined. A pearl-white veil with a finely patterned edge covers her head and falls over her shoulders. The outer robe is grass green, laid in broad folds, with golden trim at the sleeves. Her raised right hand holds a small golden cross; her left palm is open at her chest. A red-and-gold detail stands out at her shoulder. The halo is large, worked in gold and ochre rows. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, the halo, the corner rosettes, the side ornament and the cartouche, while the pale background with its printed leaf pattern stays on the canvas. A brown-and-gold border runs round the field: corner fans at the top, a small repeating pattern down the sides and the name cartouche at the foot.
