The hoop is two plastic rings; the outer one is split and carries the screw that sets the grip. A small diameter means the fabric tensions more evenly than on a large field and barely sags during work. The smooth inner edge leaves no creases in the Aida, so the finished piece needs no pressing after it comes out.
