Description

“St. Vladislav” is a mini icon of the holy prince: a young saint in a crown and red princely dress. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm — a small image, yet the figure reads clearly from across the room.

What the picture shows

The prince is shown half-length, in three-quarter view. On his head sits a low crown gathered from green, red and gold beads with blue stones along the rim; the face is young, with a short dark beard. The cloak is a dense, almost brick red, and a green loros with gold plaques and coloured inserts falls across his chest. His right hand is pressed to his breast. The halo is a broad ring of amber beads. The golden rays behind are not stitched: they stay as print on the art canvas, and the beads sit only on the figure, the halo and the border. A three-line cartouche runs along the foot.
