Description

“St. Vasilisa” is a mini icon of the martyr holding a large gold cross. The finished piece measures 100×150 mm; small, yet the figure fills almost the whole field.

What the picture shows

The saint stands in three-quarter view, in a blue maphorion with a gold cross above her brow; the folds of the veil are laid out in several blues, from lilac to near-ink. Beneath the veil is a grass-green dress with dark shadows in the folds. With both hands she steadies a large gold cross that runs the height of her chest. The halo is a dense ring of amber beads, and the rays behind the figure stay as print on the canvas. Beads fill the figure, the halo and the edging; below sit a three-line cartouche and gold rosettes in the corners.
