Description

“St.Thomas” is a mini icon of the apostle with a small scroll in his hand. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm; the figure fills almost the whole field.

What the picture shows

The apostle is shown young and beardless, his fair hair combed back. His himation is a deep red laid in even rows, and the green collar of his tunic shows at the neck, worked in bright emerald beads. His right hand is raised in the gesture of speech, his left holds a small pale scroll edged with pearl beads and carrying a short text in Church Slavonic. The halo is gathered from amber rings, while the golden rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A two-line cartouche sits below, flanked by beaded rosettes on gold.
