Description

“St. Svyatoslav” is a mini icon of the holy prince in amber-coloured dress. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm; the palette is warm and made of only eight colours.

What the picture shows

The prince is shown half-length, with a fair beard and a low crown set with red and blue stones. His outer garment is a dark amber, worked in gold, copper and brown beads in a fine pattern like embroidered brocade; a red cloak falls at either side from beneath it. A blue and yellow band runs down the centre, and in his hands he holds a slim cross on a long shaft. The halo is a broad ring of amber beads, and the rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche runs below.
