Description

“St. Stephen” is a mini icon of the venerable saint in a green phelonion with a Gospel in his hands. Upright format, 100×150 mm; the figure fills almost the whole field.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown elderly, with a high forehead and a long grey beard falling below his chest. His phelonion is grass green, set in two shades so that the folds read across it, and a red band with fine pattern runs along the foot of the robe. Over the phelonion lies an omophorion of pearl-white beads marked with small red crosses. In his left hand he holds a Gospel in an orange-gold binding, his right pressed to his chest. The halo is gathered from amber rings, and the rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche runs below, flanked by beaded rosettes on gold.
