Description

“St. Solomiya” is a mini icon of the myrrh-bearing woman with her vessel of myrrh. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm, and built almost entirely on blue.

What the picture shows

A pearl-white veil covers the saint’s head and falls over her shoulders in broad even folds. The robe beneath is blue, set in two shades: dense ultramarine on the left and a lighter, almost turquoise tone on the right, with a violet insert showing at the neck. In her hand she holds a dark bronze vessel of myrrh — the sign by which a myrrh-bearer is known. The halo is gathered from several rings of amber and dark brown beads. The rays behind stay as print on the art canvas. A three-line cartouche sits below, flanked by broad corner fields of beaded ornament.
