Description

“St. Savely” is a mini icon of the archbishop: the saint in a blue sakkos with a Gospel book in his hand. The piece is vertical, 100×150 mm.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown half-length, with a fair beard and a high forehead. His sakkos is blue, set out in a check of two shades from dense cobalt to pale sky; over it lies a white omophorion with large red crosses, worked in pearl-pink beads. His right hand is folded in blessing, his left holds a bound Gospel with coloured stones on the cover. The halo is a broad ring of amber beads. The rays behind stay as print on the canvas, so the vestments stand out clearly above the ground. A three-line cartouche and beaded rosettes fill the corners below.
